Thanks to all who joined us for our 15th anniversary celebration! Our first event was a trip to the Farnsworth House on June 27, 2004. It seemed fitting to revisit this Midcentury icon, the most famous home designed by Mies van der Rohe. We were invited by the current director, Scott Mehaffey, to celebrate in style with a Mid-century inspired, old fashioned picnic, after taking a guided tour of the house, visitors center, and grounds. It was a hot, but otherwise beautiful day to tour one of the most iconic MCM homes in the world, and we thoroughly enjoyed the tour given to us by guides from the Farnswoth House Visitor’s Center. Afterward, we gathered under the shade and enjoyed our picnic, with delicious chicken & pulled pork from Calico Cafe, drinks and sides made by CBB board members. The gallery building was open to us as well, so that we could enjoy the current photography and furniture exhibit on Florence Knoll. Our tour was exclusively for CBB members. The ticket price covered the tour and picnic.
SCHEDULE: We will gather at 4:00 p.m. at the visitors center, see the Knoll exhibit and a short film about Farnsworth. We will also hold a short annual meeting. At 4:30, as a group, we will then walk down to the house – 1/2 mile. (comfortable walking shoes are a must) where we will have a 1 hour docent-led tour of the house and grounds. We will then walk back and enjoy our catered picnic outdoors in this beautiful setting.
This event must be capped at 60 people, so be sure to reserve your space ASAP!
