CBB’s 2017 annual meeting was hosted by Wintrust Bank, showcasing the renovation of their 1961 bank building in Old Town (originally North Federal Savings). Bank President Amy Lemar shared with us the original bank’s brochure, described the restoration and updates they’ve done to keep the building current for today’s banking needs, and gave us a tour of the building.
Joe Kunkel recapped last year’s accomplishments and spoke about our Board’s activities and our upcoming volunteer opportunities. Kathy Deane, Treasurer, provided an update on our organization’s finances, which are all in order.
Our guest speaker was renown photographer, writer, architecture critic, and ardent student of Mid-Century design and its context – Lee Bey. His talk, “Beyond Mies” Unsung Mid-Century Modern Gems in our Midst, included additional materials on our incredible venue. It was a great chance to visit and learn more about the history of this building we have all admired over the years. Bey’s photos reveal the modernist treasures around Chicagoland in the form of postwar homes, churches, synagogues, medical buildings, businesses, banks, and more.
It was a fantastic Spring day in Chicago! Thanks to all who came and participated.
